Hi, my loves!
For today’s post, I thought I’d share my beauty favourites of 2017 with you all. Now, I know that I’m a little late (ever-so-slightly, really) to the party, but better late than never, right?
I’m going to start off with skincare, and then move on to make-up. I’m not particularly picking up products in every category, but simply picking out my favourite products of 2017 that made me feel good about my glam. I’m going to cover a few brushes that I loved, too.
Just a little warning: this is going to be a loooooong post, so grab a snack, and get ready. Here goes:
L’Oreal Paris Pure Clay Mask Exfoliate and Refine Pores
This mask is truly wonderful. After my ankle surgery, I was taking around thirteen pills a day, along with many other antibiotics. My skin had become super textured, and there were little bumps all over my face. Desperate to get rid of this texture, I decided to try out this face mask by L’Oreal Paris. A few months later, I can safely say that purchasing this was a wonderful decision because my skin is now clear as day. Apply this mask twice a week, and you’ll love the results, for sure!
Clinique Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief
If you have oily skin or are generally on the lookout for a lightweight moisturizer, this gel moisturizer by Clinique will be perfect for you. Granted, it’s a little expensive, but it’s definitely worth it.
Pond’s Moisturizing Cold Cream
An oldie but a true goodie, I’ve been using this cream since I was fourteen. My mother and grandmother swear by it, and for good reason. It’s a boon for dry, parched skin, and ultra-affordable too! If there is one skincare item you want, it’s this one for sure. I truly cannot recommend it enough.
Innisfree Green Tea Mineral Mist
This facial mist is great to spray on your face before adding on moisturizers and creams. It might seem like an extra step, but it really does help with dehydrated skin. It’s also great to spritz on your face throughout the day if you’re feeling like your skin is a little dull or dehydrated. Oh, and the spray nozzle is a continuous one- that means less effort, more hydration!
Bath and Body Works Coco Shea Honey Seriously Soft Body Lotion
I picked up this body lotion during my summer ’17 trip to Dubai, and I’m already online ordering more. This is an ultra-hydrating body lotion, and it makes your skin soft and supple. And the scent! I love this scent, and if I could bathe myself in it every day, I would.
Bath and Body Works French Lavender and Honey Fine Fragrance Mist
This lightweight body mist is a beautiful pick for an everyday fragrance. Its sweet, floral notes add a touch of freshness and softness. If you hate heavy, scented perfumes, this is a great pick for you. You can spray it a million times over and it still won’t be overpowering- in fact, it’ll just leave a soft, fresh and rather delicious fragrance enveloping you.
Maybelline New York Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser
Now, I’ll be honest. I’m not quite sure whether primers really do increase the longevity of your makeup, but I love to use them to smooth out my skin so that my foundation application is flawless. And this is where this primer comes in. It has a lightweight texture and gives you a smooth canvas to work with. It melts into the skin quickly, so it’s perfect for those mornings when you’re in a bit of a time crunch. The packaging is also small and compact, making it perfect for when you’re travelling. You also need very little of the product, thus making it go a very long way.
Clinique Beyond Perfecting Foundation + Concealer (8 Golden Neutral)
Oh my God, where do I even start with this product? It is perfect. Truly perfect. Lightweight, full coverage, buildable, blendable… I could go on and on. I do use it as both a foundation and concealer, simply building the product in areas that need a little more coverage. And the shade match is quite literally on point. Get this foundation- I promise, it will do you no wrong.
M.A.C. Prep + Prime BB Beauty Balm (Medium Dark)
For the days when my skin is not super red, and I don’t have a lot of breakouts to conceal, I turn to this BB cream. Now, don’t just dismiss it because it’s a BB cream. It has a light to medium (buildable) coverage and lasts all day. Yes, you read that right. And it thankfully doesn’t get extremely oily like other BB creams. I know that it’s expensive, but if you have money to spend, go for it!
Maybelline New York Instant Age Rewind Dark Circle Eraser (Honey)
Maybelline finally heard my prayers and brought this concealer to India! Its release has been long overdue, and I was ecstatic to get my hands on it. This concealer has wonderful coverage, is super buildable and blendable, and highlights your under-eye area like a dream. This is definitely my new favourite, and has quickly replaced my Fit Me! Concealer.
Rimmel London Stay Matte Long Lasting Pressed Powder (001 Transparent)
This powder is a dream come true for oily beauties. This is the first powder I’ve come across that actually mattifies your face for a few hours. Of course, my oily nose eventually peeks through, but this powder is the only one that has been able to mattify my face for more than a couple hours. It doesn’t leave a white cast over your face, but be careful when layering it up, because then it might wash you out a bit. Personally, I use it more as a blotting powder.
Marc Jacobs Hi-Fi Filter Light Filtering Contour Powder (60)
This matte highlight and contour duo is pricey but totally worth it! I have mine in the shade 60, and the contour shade is absolutely perfect for my skin tone. The highlight shade actually manages to bring some light to your under-eyes, and this duo has one of the very few powders that I’ve come across, that actually work.
Kiko Milano Design Flower Enriched Bronzer (02 Couture Sienna)
On my lazy makeup days, I use this bronzer to lightly sculpt and add some colour and warmth to my face. If you’re in a hurry and want to use just one cheek product to pull your look together, this is your pick.
Physician’s Formula Butter Bronzer (Bronzer)
On the days I do a full on contour-blush-highlight routine, I use this light, soft bronzer to help add on to my contour and blush. It has a light, non-glittery sheen, and is a wonderful product if you’re not into heavily bronzing your face. Bonus: it smells like a tropical vacation!
M.A.C. Powder Blush (Mocha)
M.A.C. powder blushes have one of the best formulas on the market, and this one is obviously no exception. Now, I’m not the biggest fan of blush, and I hate blush-heavy looks. But the shade Mocha is perfect for an everyday look. It has the perfect mix of pink and brown, and you can layer it on and even go heavy-handed, and it’ll never look too much. In fact, it’ll just add a hint of colour to your cheeks to help pull your whole look together.
Becca Pressed Shimmering Skin Perfector (Champagne Pop)
This highlighter is a cult favourite, and for good reason. It’s popping, it’s blendable, and it suits my skin tone perfectly. It’s the perfect mix of peach and gold, and it’s not too light, not too dark- just perfect. If you have a medium to dusky skin tone, I highly recommend that you invest in this product. You’ll need no other highlighter once you get your hands on this one. And I’m not just saying this- I haven’t touched any of my other highlighters since I got my hands on this one last summer. I can sing its praises all day long, but I’m sure you’ve all got the point by now.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Eye Shadow Palette
Ah, Anastasia. I’m willing to overlook the Subculture disaster, only because I love the Modern Renaissance palette so much. The shadows are buttery and blendable, and while there is some fallout (as there is with most powder products), it’s not a deal breaker. The colours are a mix of pink and warm tones, and you can create so many cohesive looks with this palette. It’s replaced my Morphe 35O over the past few months- that’s how good it is.
Nykaa Matteilicious Lip Crayon (Jade Rose 11)
Nykaa knows makeup- and quite literally, because they’re first and foremost one of the biggest makeup e-commerce companies in India. Their lip crayons live up to the name- they’re matte, and not uncomfortably so, and their shade range has a colour for everyone. This shade, in particular, has actually become my most used shade of 2017, and I continue to find myself reaching for this over my M.A.C. lipsticks, even. Moreover, this shade has the ability to suit any and all skin tones. And I’m not just saying this- all my friends have bought this particular shade, and it suits all their skin tones as well.
Urban Decay All-Nighter Makeup Setting Spray
Interestingly enough, the primary reason I use a makeup setting spray is so my makeup looks seamless, and all the powders melt into each other. While this spray does help my makeup last a tad bit longer, the reason I love it is that it melts all my powders together while still keeping my skin matte.
P.A.C. 231 Buffing Brush
This buffing brush is my new obsession. I always swore by my BeautyBlender, but the one thing that I hated was that the sponge absorbed some of my foundation, and I had to layer to build up the coverage. Enter, the P.A.C. 231. This brush is soft and durable, comes in its own pouch, spreads my foundation quickly and evenly, doesn’t leave any streaks, and doesn’t absorb any product. This is a boon for those of us who don’t have the time to wet our sponges and pat it a hundred times on our face for a flawless finish. If there’s one brush you want to buy from this list, make sure it’s this one. Oh, and it’s super inexpensive, too!
Faces 106 Eyeshadow Brush
This blending brush is my life. It is the perfect size, nestles wonderfully into my crease, disperses shadow beautifully, and so much more. No eyeshadow look of mine is complete without this brush.
Pro Arte AF05 Precision Powder Applicator
This brush has been my go-to for setting my under-eye area, removing my baking powder, highlighting under my contour, and even setting the high points of my face. This is a no-fuss, inexpensive brush, and the shape and density are perfect.
Make-Up For You Fan Brush
Quick background story: my best friend ordered this random brush set off Amazon, and I stole this from her. I, unfortunately, have no idea how or where to get it from, but if I do stumble across it, I’ll let you all know. This brush is the perfect density and picks up just the right amount of highlighter. It also blends it out beautifully and doesn’t leave a streak of product on your face like other brushes do.
Real Techniques Accent Brush
This tiny little accent brush is perfect for highlighting your inner corners and placing glitter shadow or creams in the centre of your lid. It’s tiny, precise and has just the right amount of stiffness!
Colorbar Contouring Brush
This brush is a little too big to achieve a precise contour, so I use it as a bronzer brush. The shape fits perfectly into the contours of my face, and picks up and disperses the right amount of product. Not just that, it also helps blend all your powders seamlessly. You can clearly see how much I love it- the branding has completely rubbed off!
Whew! That was one long post. But, as always, I hope you all enjoyed reading it.
